A recent commentator at Eclectic Christian named “Christian Kane” has some really interesting poetry that he has written on his site.

Bloody Love.
13 05 2009

My eyes lifted upwards,
no angels, colors, or shooting stars I see,
But a bloody mess nailed to a tree.
Fixed between Heaven and Earth
Love stretches it’s arms wide.
If I take the embrace it will stain my shirt,
But that man’s blood will heal my hurt.

So deep a wound requires remittance
Yet the earth is blissful of its debt
For its worthless appetites does it whet.
Strike the band and sing a chorus,
You who are about to perish.
You failed your calling and your maker,
Now is the time to pay the piper.

Failure never tasted so sour,
Nor did a victory seem so unloved,
As the coming king who is dyed in blood.
The peoples fall beneath Him,
But his pace does not slow.
If you side with Him you will yet live,
Though the rest are sent through a sieve.

The ESV Study Bible meets controversy

Mona Lisa meets the ESV

The Louvre Museum announced today that they had entered into a corporate sponsorship deal with Crossway Books to promote the English Standard Version (ESV) Study Bible.

The deal worth $10,000,000 USD a year in perpetuity would result in an image of the ESV Study Bible being integrated into several of works of several of the masters, by world renown restorationists. The first of these paintings, the Mona Lisa, which has been off display for the last 45 days, was presented at a corporate gala this afternoon.

Spokesperson for Crossway Books, Justin Taylor, was heard to say, “We have finally given the Mona Lisa a reason to smile!”

Faces of Christ

A post at jesusshaped.wordpress.com encouraged me to do some digging to see what I could find for different pictorial representations of Christ. This one was the coolest that I could find. It shows many different views of Jesus morphing from one to the next.

If you have a high speed connection you might also be interested in downloading a second video. (It is 8 megabytes in size.) This quicktime video shows Jesus as he has been depicted chronologically through the centuries.

Here is what the original artist of the second video had to say:

The inspiration came from an installation artist i knew in Hamburg. It followed one of his rambled musings: that throughout the centuries, artists have created many representations of Jesus. We all have a different mental picture of what Christ looks like. Yet the same eyes are always looking back at us. So fixing his eyes as the focal point, i used a morphing software to blend between various images of Christ. Chronologically they go from the 6th Century mosaic to a 1998 artwork.
